A jumbo melon auctioned in Japan


A black jumbo water melon which weighs about 8 kg was auctioned in northern japan.The melon fetched a record price of about 65,000 yen equivalent to 2.5 lakh rupees.The auction was conducted on June 6th making it the costliest or most expensive watermelon ever sold in the country.The melon was purchased by a marine products dealer who bought the melon so as to support local agriculture.The country treat the melons as luxury items and give the melons as a gift.During the month of may a pair of yubari melons were sold for a record price of 2.5 million yen that is 96 lakh rupees.
