At the Elephant orphanage 60 odd elephants shelter.The waste generated by each elephant amounts to 180 kg roughly a day.the disposal is elephantine in nature.There are 60 elephants and what an amount of dung?The solution was provided by a firm in Hyderabad by producing eco-friendly paper from the elephant dung.Each elephant could produce 115 sheets of paper.This is similar to the hand made one from tree fiber.This is being turned into stationery,name cards,calendars,photo frames,albums and boxes. They are poor digestors and leave out 50% of what they consume as dung.They are fiber rich enough to make paper.The process involves washing and boiling the dung,bleaching,adding color,drying and then flattening the surface.If the elephants had known that their dungs wrere so useful and capable of making some money then they would have started paper making factories.
