The Sensational News

First of all a clear line should be drawn to demarcate sensational news from what is called 'sensationalised news'. The former are those events which make instant headlines because of its huge and immediate impact, if only emotional, on the people. A high profile scandal or an assassination, for instance creates immediate ripples in the society and makes it to the front page of every newspaper in the country. But what the media has been primarily blamed for is 'sensationalising' some news. Events which doesn't merit any attention are given prominence and passed on the news-hungry people as the next big thing after Jesus walked on earth.
